NEW RELEASE
IF I COULD TOUCH THE SKY chronicles a decades-long journey through this wondrous thing called life. The breakup of my own family and the shocking assassinations of America's great visionaries of the 1960's - "BEGINNING AGAIN" (track 5) and "REQUIEM FOR A DREAM" (track 6) The adventurous Latin-infused rhythms of "GALAPAGOS!" (track 1) and "CAPILEIRA" (track 11) inspired by my travels in Ecuador and Spain. The gospel acapella of "HAVE YOU NOT KNOWN" (track 4) and the sanguine orchestrations of "SONG FOR AMERICA" (track 12) complete the playlist. Six of the twelve songs are jazz instrumentals including the title track which was a finalist in the 2023 Great American Songwriting Contest.
From Plymouth Rock to man's first steps on the moon, "Song For America" provides the soundscape for 400 years of the American experience. Featuring Amanda Gorman's stirring recital of "The Hill We Climb," this elaborately orchestrated composition is my "Mr. Holland's Opus."
